Where the hell is Matt? [2008]

Remember Matt? I made a post about this guy who posted a sensational youtube video about him, travelling all around the world and doing his little dance, to signify that he has been to all these countries. It was inspiring. To see a person travel so far and wide and to little known places, seeing the people from all walks of life.

Well you know what? From his webpage, he has done it again. After 14 months in the making, 42 countries, and a cast of thousands, all joining in his dance, he has release yet another awe inspiring video of him travelling around the world in his latest 2008 video clip. And the best part: He visited Singapore.

Yes he visited singapore, and you can see him dancing at an all too familiar landmark all true blue singaporeans would be able to recognize. Just make sure you see the entire clip first. Trust me, its there.

You can watch a higher quality video clip here.

However, what strikes me most in my heart is not only the clip but also the soundtrack accompanied with  it. The song title is called “Praan”. The vocal is sung by a girl from a place called Fataleka in the Solomon Islands. She is singing a lullaby song named “Rorogwela”

”Rorogwela” is part of the oral tradition among the Baegu tribe, passed down through generations for who-knows-how-long, and was thankfully preserved while there were members of the tribe who could still sing it.

The lyrics are as follows:

Young brother, young brother, be quiet
You are crying, but our father has left us
He has gone to the place of the dead
To protect the living, to protect the orphan child

The song has thus been modernized with other music accompaniments, and thus the song is born. Pretty sad lyrics huh? But its a beautiful song nonetheless, and very fitting to the overall theme of the video clip itself.

You can listen the music through imeem.

My first favourite Indonesian Band.

It happened while I was browsing through someone else’s music playlist in his PSP. Then i came across a very beautiful song entitled ” Menghapus Jejakmu”. Its a song in Bahasa Indonesia. What? Me liking an indonesian song? That must be crazy. Well believe it, i think Peterpan (name of the band) has gotta be my first ever indonesian band that im starting to like.

Peterpan was one of the top indonesian bands. With many awards won, they are well known for their simple lyrics and catchy beats and also Ariel’s voice, which is the vocalist.

Menghapus Jejakmu is the song that i sampled and the song that i immediately like after hearing on the first run through.

You can listen to the music here.

THE LYRICS:

Menghapus Jejakmu

Terusk melangkah melupakan mu

lelah hati perhatikan sikapmu

jalan pikiran mu buat ku ragu

tak mungkin ini tetap bertahan

Perlahan mimpi terasa mengganggu

kucoba untuk terus menjauh

perlahan hati ku terbelenggu

ku coba untuk lanjutkan kan hidup

Engkau bukan lah segalaku

bukan tempat tuk menghentikan langkahku

usai sudah semua berlalu

biarkan hujan menghapus jejakmu

Terus melangkah melupakan mu

lelah hati perhatikan sikapmu

jalan pikiran mu buat ku ragu

tak mungkin ini tetap bertahan

Perlahan mimpi terasa mengganggu

kucoba tuk terus menjauh

perlahan hati ku terbelenggu

ku coba tuk lanjutkan hidup

Engkau bukan lah segalaku

bukan tempat tuk hentikan langkahku

usai sudah semua berlalu

biar hujan menghapus jejakmu

Lepaskan segala nya 2x…

Engkau bukan lah segalaku

bukan tempat tuk hentikan langkahku

usai sudah semua berlalu

biarkan hujan menghapus jejakmu @2x

Erasing your foot steps

Continue walking forgetting you

my heart is tired from observing your attitude

your way of thinking makes me doubtful

it is impossible for this to be sustained

Slowly it felt like dream is aggitating

I try to keep moving away

slowly my heart is shackled

I try to continue my live

You are not my everything

not the place where I stop my steps

this is the end, let everything pass

let the rain wash away your foot steps

Continue walking forgetting you

my heart is tired from observing your attitude

your way of thinking makes me doubtful

it is impossible for this to be sustained

Slowly it felt like dream is aggitating

I try to keep moving away

slowly my heart is shackled

I try to continue my live

You are not my everything

not the place where I stop my steps

this is the end, let everything pass

let the rain wash away your foot steps

Let go of everything 2x…

You are not my everything

not the place where I stop my steps

this is the end, let everything pass

let the rain wash away your foot steps

Diablo III?! WoW….

Im not a fan of the Diablo franchise, but once i heard the news that its in development, i can help but think that i might be getting this game after all. No release date has been set yet, and i dont think it would be released this year either, considering the multiple projects Blizzard is handling right now. WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, Starcraft II and the latest, Diablo III.

Ive seen my childhood friend play Diablo II. It was pretty interesting. The latest installment however, would be a major improvement to the realm of 3D graphics while at the same time, keeping it faithful to the overall feel of the franchise, that is Diablo.

I downloaded the first ever cinematic trailer of the Diablo III, and i must say, i was thoroughly impressed. As always with Blizzard’s quality of work, the trailer is no exception. Following the ranks of World of Warcraft and its expansion, The Burning Crusade, the trailer utilizes the finest in CG animation with top notch visuals and audio to satisfy the senses of all fans to the Diablo franchise. Even I was amazed and pulled in by the amazing introduction.

So whats my first impression after watching the clip? This could be another of Blizzard’s finest in the making. Im looking forward to seeing its developments on the main page in the coming months.

You can of course download the hi def version of the above clip at the official website.

L’Arc~en~Ciel latest single out! Utada latest single debut at No. 3

Its been an interesting week for Oricon, with , L’Arc~en~Ciel, and Utada Hiakru releasing their latest single all at the same week. Mika Nakashima debuted on number 3 last week, before dropping to number 5.

Coming at number 1 is L’Arc~en~Ciel, with My Heart Draws A Dream. I managed to preview it and it sounds interesting, but it takes some time for me to really like it. I dont find any interesting tunes or melodies coming out from the latest single, but as always, Hyde’s voice is certainly the trademark that makes L’Arc~en~Ciel so unique. Blast the music out loud and you might find their music appealing.

The single sold about 112 000 physical albums on its first week.

You can preview the song here.

Coming up Next is my all time favourite, Utada Hikaru. However, taking a step back, i think Utada Hikaru would be my all time favourite female artiste while L’Arc~en~Ciel would be my all time favourite male artiste, or band for that matter. So thank god for that, or I would be so pissed as to why Utada’s latest single did not reach number 1 on the Oricon Charts.

Selling at a healthy 94 000 copies, im still quite puzzled as to why it sold lower than expected though. Maybe it did better through online music sales? Given the hype that Utada’s latest song, Beautiful World happened to be one of the theme song to one of the greatest anime remake, Neon Genesis Evangelion, it still fails to hit the top of the charts.

Ive posted the music sample in my previous post. Just look up under Utada Hikaru under the categories section.

Trailing at number 5 on its second week of release is Mika Nakashima’s latest, LIFE. Though im not a big fan of Mika Nakashima, but some of her songs are exceptional, and no doubt her smoky, blues, jazz voice really adds flavour to her songs. This one is an example of that. LIFE was release in the normal and ballad version. I prefer the ballad version. Its slower, more vocal and more soulful.

You can preview the normal version here.

Catherine Tate comedy.

Ever since a friend of mine, Angeline recommended me a bunch of humorous comedy from Britain, i just couldnt stop finding more clips of Catherine Tate.

Catherine Tate is a British comedian and actress. Her humorous comedy sketches were nothing short of extreme laughter when i first watched it on youtube. There are a many clips out there but i can show you 2 of my favourites.

The first one is Catherine Tate as a translator, translating to 7 different languages. I cant recall when was the last time I actually laughed that loud when watching a video clip.

The second one is a series of comedy sketches, with Catherine Tate portraying a school student together with 2 of her friends.

I just love the way she said, “Am I bovvered? Look at my face. AM I BOVVERED!?” “Issit?” “All Right” and among others.

Paprika opens tomorrow in Singapore, Brave Story on 16th August.

Wow! I totally missed this! But i just read in the news that Cathay will be showcasing another big hit anime sensation to the big screen. Its none other than Paprika.

A film by Satoshi Kon, who not only made Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers, but also the surreal and eerie Paranoia Agent

Susumu Hirasawa also teams up with Satoshi Kon to create the soundtrack for Paprika as he had done for Paranoia Agent, filling the sounds full of electric and surreal melodies.

Ive watched this before, and although i prefer “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” better than Paprika in terms of storyline, Paprika has excellent animation and visuals, none that I’ve ever seen in most other animations out there. Those who intend to watch should be delighted to know that they would be in for a treat. The film itself has garnered several critical acclaim in terms of the quality of the animation that could rival western animation studios. Already, this film has been selected to a few film festival as an opening film. The only complain i have personally is that it takes time for one to understand the story as it can get a little complex. But fret not, regardless, its a good film to watch for anime fans out there. The trailer can be found on Sony’s Official Movie Page.

Adding another anime title coming to Singapore’s shores and to the delight of anime fans here, Brave Story, a film done by GONZO will be coming on August 16th. Again, Cathay ( I love you!!) will be bringing it their theaters.

I dont really know much about brave story, as i only first watched the trailer at Cathay Cineleisure last week while waiting to watch Harry Potter. I heard of it, but was unaware of what the story is all about. According to Animenewsnetwork:

When 10 year old Wataru’s father leaves home and his mother is taken ill to hospital, he decides to change his fate by travelling through the door shown to him by his friend Mitsuru. In a land of magic and monsters, Wataru must summon all his courage and embark on a journey with several comrades to meet the Goddess of Destiny and change this “mistaken fate”.”

You can watch the trailer here:

So that does then. Anime lovers, mark your calenders, call up like minded peeps such as yourself and start planning to watch!
