31st of July was the day of my convocation. After 4 years of study in NTU, I finally get to graduate. And graduate with a second class upper division. I am truly happy right now. I not only achieved my goals I set out at the beginning of school when I first started out in NTU, but also managed to have a meaningful and fulfilling experience as well. Truly, tertiary experience is one of the most exciting and memorable life experiences I could ever have in my life. I am truly grateful for all the good things that have  happened to me. I am so blessed to be given the opportunity to live out the life full of wonder, satisfaction and amazement. The friends I have made are some of the most interesting and truly inspiring groups of people I have ever met. I am truly honoured and humbled to be friends with them. I will never forget them. Ever.

I posted this on Facebook on the day of my convocation and have since gotten a resounding round of approval from my peers;

This is it. Today is the day. Today is the day I officially graduate with a degree. The closing of another chapter. Tomorrow, a new chapter begins. A blank slate. How I write this chapter is completely up to me.

It has been a long road to reach where I am right now. It began with a single step. But the journey doesn’t end here. I will have to take that first step again to reach my goals. A new road. The road to happiness and success is a long one. I will be lost. I will encounter roadblocks. I will need to make u-turns along the way. If there is one thing I have learnt about making such journeys, is that it is never a straight path. One thing is for certain; never stop walking. No matter how long I take, so long as I don’t stop, I will reach my destination, eventually.

The people that I have known, my family, my friends, and the people that I will meet in the future, they are there to show me the way. But it is I who will have to make the effort to walk the road to happiness and success. And I will never stop walking till I find my own.

As for this journey today? I have reached my destination. I have found my own happiness and success.

Artistic outlet

I am not an artist. I can’t draw beyond stick figures. But sometimes, browsing through pinterest and all the nice little DIY ideas really invoke the artistic side of me.

There are several DIY projects that I have come across that I would love to do. But sometimes it is quite challenging when you have neither the resources nor the artistic flair to make something beautiful.

I have done a couple of DIY projects that are easy with things that you need that are relatively easy (and cheap) to get. And I had a lot of fun doing it. It is one thing to admire and appreciate the beautiful things that people have made on their free time and sharing it with the rest of the world through pinterest. But it is another thing to really replicate what they did and finding sheer satisfaction in doing it correctly, and looking great based on your own effort and limited skills in the arts. In those projects that were simple enough, I could go to great lengths to get the items needed to make something. And if my efforts have yielded results, I get great satisfaction.

It is therapeutic, in short to be able to do something that is somewhat artistic. Knowing that through the things people shared through pinterest, you can follow those instruction and get pretty much the same results. I owe it to the website and the artistic people around the world for sharing all their great ideas.

Applying my success principle No. 1

So i came across this book and it was kinda interesting. It is a self help book, similar to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. The 7 Habits books was a great help and it helped it achieve my goals set out in the short term. But lately i have been deviating from my principles and life wasnt just what it used to. I feel directionless of late.

So now after having bought The Success Principles for Teens, i decided that its high time that i should take control of my life once more. This book is written by Jack Canfield, the author popular for the Chicken Soup series and Kent Healy. It basically highlights the various principles that successful people apply in their lives. I havent finished reading it, rather, i just completed the first principle in the book, and that is:

This principle basically teaches you and make you realise that the action you take will completely affect the outcome and that no one, but you have control over your own action. The desired outcome that you want to achieve, lies 100% in your actions. In other words, if you want to achieve something, you must have the mentality that you must take 100% responsiblity of your actions, and ultimately your life. The principle also gives examples on why people dont succeed in achieving the things they wanted. The main reasons would be, that they blame on everything else except himself when things dont go their way. People have that mentality that they cant do it, or its just how it is with the person.

I had my first taste in achieving the desired outcome when i started applying this first principle at work. It was also rather significant for me, because if i hadnt take the correct action, it might be quite disastrous for me. And when i say disastrous, it really mean disastrous. For if i were to choose not to do anything about it, i have compromised the safety of my men. It was hardwork trying to get things right on my own for the first time, without external help, but it finally paid it off, and now i am relieved that everything went well. It wasnt the smoothest of journey to achieve the desired outcome, but at least my conscience is clear now, and i can breathe easy.

The first principle definitely paved the way to realising the fact that it helps. No matter how small the action you take, it might have a big and lasting impact in you and other people around you.
