My first favourite Indonesian Band.

It happened while I was browsing through someone else’s music playlist in his PSP. Then i came across a very beautiful song entitled ” Menghapus Jejakmu”. Its a song in Bahasa Indonesia. What? Me liking an indonesian song? That must be crazy. Well believe it, i think Peterpan (name of the band) has gotta be my first ever indonesian band that im starting to like.

Peterpan was one of the top indonesian bands. With many awards won, they are well known for their simple lyrics and catchy beats and also Ariel’s voice, which is the vocalist.

Menghapus Jejakmu is the song that i sampled and the song that i immediately like after hearing on the first run through.

You can listen to the music here.

THE LYRICS:

Menghapus Jejakmu

Terusk melangkah melupakan mu

lelah hati perhatikan sikapmu

jalan pikiran mu buat ku ragu

tak mungkin ini tetap bertahan

Perlahan mimpi terasa mengganggu

kucoba untuk terus menjauh

perlahan hati ku terbelenggu

ku coba untuk lanjutkan kan hidup

Engkau bukan lah segalaku

bukan tempat tuk menghentikan langkahku

usai sudah semua berlalu

biarkan hujan menghapus jejakmu

Terus melangkah melupakan mu

lelah hati perhatikan sikapmu

jalan pikiran mu buat ku ragu

tak mungkin ini tetap bertahan

Perlahan mimpi terasa mengganggu

kucoba tuk terus menjauh

perlahan hati ku terbelenggu

ku coba tuk lanjutkan hidup

Engkau bukan lah segalaku

bukan tempat tuk hentikan langkahku

usai sudah semua berlalu

biar hujan menghapus jejakmu

Lepaskan segala nya 2x…

Engkau bukan lah segalaku

bukan tempat tuk hentikan langkahku

usai sudah semua berlalu

biarkan hujan menghapus jejakmu @2x

ENGLISH:

Erasing your foot steps

Continue walking forgetting you

my heart is tired from observing your attitude

your way of thinking makes me doubtful

it is impossible for this to be sustained

Slowly it felt like dream is aggitating

I try to keep moving away

slowly my heart is shackled

I try to continue my live

You are not my everything

not the place where I stop my steps

this is the end, let everything pass

let the rain wash away your foot steps

Continue walking forgetting you

my heart is tired from observing your attitude

your way of thinking makes me doubtful

it is impossible for this to be sustained

Slowly it felt like dream is aggitating

I try to keep moving away

slowly my heart is shackled

I try to continue my live

You are not my everything

not the place where I stop my steps

this is the end, let everything pass

let the rain wash away your foot steps

Let go of everything 2x…

You are not my everything

not the place where I stop my steps

this is the end, let everything pass

let the rain wash away your foot steps

Evangelion 1.0 You are (Not) Alone coming to town…

Ok i seriously need to head down to town more often. Im missing out lots of juicy and interesting news lately. Just this evening, i was heading to Cineleisure with my friends to have some lan gaming fun when, to my shock, i spotted an ad of Evangelion 1.0 movie on the first floor of the mall.

O RLY?!

YA RLY! Yes its true, its exactly what ive said. The movie is indeed coming to town. The franchise that started a social phenomenon in Japan years ago is coming to theaters right hereT Too bad i didnt have camera to prove it to you guys but im dead sure the ad is there. I cant remember the release date for the movie but if im not wrong its 13 March 2008.

The remake to the original blockbuster classic that redefines Mecha animation today is the 1st of 4 movies to be shown here. I need to reconfirm the official release date again. It happened so fast… we were rushing to out destination when this Evangelion poster caught my eye. It was crowded at that time and i didnt had the time to stop and take a closer look. It was quite big, covering the entire length of the mall’s pillar near the entrance.

I can already hear Utada’s featured song, “Beautiful World” being played through the theater’s powerful speakers… What good music!!

On a side note, A Death Note movie spin off, “L Change the World” is coming to theaters on 21st February 2008. I hope its good. I love the manga and the movies are not bad either .Im definitely gonna catch this when it comes out. At least it will relieve my impatient wait for Eva to arrive.

Utada Hikaru’s Heart Station PV out! Single Coming soon!

After the recent release of Stay Gold song by Utada for the latest Asience Hair shampoo commercial debut last December, a new single has emerged. Entitled Heart Station, its PV was released and aired on Japanese TV station on 4th February 2008 and i must say its sounding (and looking) darn goood! The Heart Station/Stay Gold single would be released on the 20th February 2008, featuring both Heart Station and Stay Gold tracks. Utada fans out there, mark your calenders to grab her latest single!

This is the PV to Heart Station. Chorus is catchy indeed!

Its  been a while since Utada release a new album, but fret not. You can look forward to Utada’s 5th Japanese Album on the 19 March 2008, under the same name as the latest single, Heart Station. It would feature 6 songs from the previous singles released, including Beautiful World, Boku wa Kuma, Flavor of Life and Kiss & Cry. Another 7 original never before heard songs will be on the album itself, making a total of 13 tracks. Im definitely gonna get my hand on that album, seeing how good Heart Station, Kiss & Cry and Beautiful World sounds.

L’Arc~en~Ciel latest single out! Utada latest single debut at No. 3

Its been an interesting week for Oricon, with , L’Arc~en~Ciel, and Utada Hiakru releasing their latest single all at the same week. Mika Nakashima debuted on number 3 last week, before dropping to number 5.

Coming at number 1 is L’Arc~en~Ciel, with My Heart Draws A Dream. I managed to preview it and it sounds interesting, but it takes some time for me to really like it. I dont find any interesting tunes or melodies coming out from the latest single, but as always, Hyde’s voice is certainly the trademark that makes L’Arc~en~Ciel so unique. Blast the music out loud and you might find their music appealing.

The single sold about 112 000 physical albums on its first week.

You can preview the song here.

Coming up Next is my all time favourite, Utada Hikaru. However, taking a step back, i think Utada Hikaru would be my all time favourite female artiste while L’Arc~en~Ciel would be my all time favourite male artiste, or band for that matter. So thank god for that, or I would be so pissed as to why Utada’s latest single did not reach number 1 on the Oricon Charts.

Selling at a healthy 94 000 copies, im still quite puzzled as to why it sold lower than expected though. Maybe it did better through online music sales? Given the hype that Utada’s latest song, Beautiful World happened to be one of the theme song to one of the greatest anime remake, Neon Genesis Evangelion, it still fails to hit the top of the charts.

Ive posted the music sample in my previous post. Just look up under Utada Hikaru under the categories section.

Trailing at number 5 on its second week of release is Mika Nakashima’s latest, LIFE. Though im not a big fan of Mika Nakashima, but some of her songs are exceptional, and no doubt her smoky, blues, jazz voice really adds flavour to her songs. This one is an example of that. LIFE was release in the normal and ballad version. I prefer the ballad version. Its slower, more vocal and more soulful.

You can preview the normal version here.

Utada Goodness!

As youve noticed, Utada Hikaru will be contributing a song from the upcoming Kiss&Cry single for “Rebuild of Evangelion” Movie. “Beautiful World” will be the opening theme for the movie. Meanwhile the exclusive trailer for the movie will feature another of Utada’s remakes, “Fly Me to the Moon”, which will also be included in the upcoming single, due to release 29th August. The movie one the other hand will be shown in theaters on September 1st.

Here’s the Trailer

You can listen to the preview of “Beautiful World” here.

And a youtube video showcasing the songs that would be in the upcoming single.

So whats my opinion on the songs so far? I love “Beautiful World”. Add to the fact that its tied to a mega big hit that kinda rocked the anime scene, which was the Evangelion franchise, i can already imagine the beautiful opening sequence tied to this beautiful song. The song sounded a little spiritual, while at the same time electric, contemporary and upbeat, which has more or less been the trademark of Utada, ever since her latest Ultra Blue album. As for “Fly me to the Moon”, the remake is fantastic, showcasing how she has matured with her now even more powerful vocals as before. The song reminds me of “Automatic“, her debut single almost 10 years ago.

Abingdon Boys School, Nephilim single out!

Sorry if im a little “wols”, but Abingdon Boys School’s latest single, Nephilim was out on the fourth of july. And it couldnt come at a better timing when the band performed during Live Earth, with billions of potential viewers. Ive watched their performance on Live Earth, and it was quite good actually. Love their hard rock stance in their music, which makes their promotional videos somewhat lackluster. Unfortunately though, the single manged to snag the 5 th spot on the Oricon Charts on its release week, compared to 4th spot which they achieved for “Howling”. I still prefer Howling though than the latest one, but nonetheless, its a good rock song.

PLAY! A Video Game Symphony. ~Thumbs Up!~

Sorry for the lack of updates. Was real busy with the weekend. Not that i had work or anything, but i did lots of stuff and im kinda short on sleep here.

Anyways, the moment that i had been waiting for finally came. The PLAY! A Video Game Symphony held on the 16th of June was a blast and it was an unforgettable experience. The night was truly a night to remember. Performing on a full house, what better way than to celebrate video game history for the geeks performed by a full orchestra and choir for the artsy. No union is more perfect than the Play! Symphony Concert.

The concert was held at The Esplanade, we got the 40 bucks seat which was at the left side of the concert hall on the foyer level, but surprisingly close to the stage. The concert started on time and the programme was carefully selected for the Asian Premier that started and ended with a bang.

Here is the programme for that night:

1. PLAY! A Video Game Symphony Fanfare

2. Super Mario Bros

3. Shenmue and Shenmue II

4. Lost Oddyssey

5. Sonic the Hedgehog

6. Metal Gear Solid

7. Blue Dragon

8. Kingdom Hearts [Original Utada Theme, click here]

9. Final Fantasy VI

~INTERMISSION~

10. Daytona USA

11. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

12. World of Warcraft [Alternative track, click here]

13. Halo

14. Castlevania

15. The Legend of Zelda

16. Final Fantasy VII – One-Winged Angel-

[Click on some of the links above to hear the original music as heard from the game. Those are not the orchestral arrangements as heard in PLAY!.]

True enough as what was mentioned on websites and brochures, we were given an audio and visual treat as the orchestra played out some of the video game’s finest and classical tunes as we watched on 3 large screen projectors above them playing out scenes from the game. Some were really fantastic and it give a real good feel to the music and the game itself. Dissapointingly, none of the Final Fantasy tunes showed any footage of the game on the large projectors, but it was cool to see the original composers of the music giving out their message to Singaporean fans on the large screen projectors.

Though im not a hardcore gamer myself, there were some tunes that were unfamiliar to me. However that doesnt stop me from enjoying the music itself. What i like about the Asian premier of Play! was the selection of the scores and the associated games. The suites and theme songs that were composed and rearranged to suite the orchestra was done really well and at no point during the concert did i get bored of the music.

There were a few titles that i actually looked forward to it. Some include Final Fantasy VII, World of Warcraft, Halo, Elder Scrolls and Super Mario Bros. In fact, World of Warcraft and Halo, gave me the best impression so far, as it requires the entire choir to sing out the difficult, powerful and climatic part of the suite’s arrangement (hear Final Fantasy VII and World of Warcraft tunes above). It felt so good to hear the music that you are familiar with, that i had goosebumps all over. To hear some of the your favourite theme from your favourite video games, word just cant describe how it felt.

Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, who composed music for the popular arcade game, Daytona USA, Shenmue series and Virtual Fighter 2, made a guest appearance during the concert. He played AND sang for us the Daytona USA theme song. It was hilarious! His vocal really couldnt make it, out of tune everywhere, but it was for pure fun. At first i couldnt recall what the theme song actually was, till he actually sang it. Now i couldnt really get my mind off the tune. You can hear the theme below:

The concert is a little under 120 minutes, including intermission, but it felt only like 30 minutes to me. It went so fast, that we just wished it to be longer. In the end, there an additional piece of music played, chosen by the public in an online poll, and they chose The Revenge of Shinobi.

Overall, it was well worth the money and wait for such a rare treat, and if this proves successful (which already did when all tix were sold out in a short period) and more such concerts actually come to Singapore, Ill definitely watch them perform again.
